New Generation(18th, May)

2010年5月20日 pstmc 没有评论

This is a memorable evening for us as PSTMC and CAT jointly and successfully held this meeting which attracted more than 60 members and guests. On behalf of all members and guests, I would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our EVP, Jolie Hu, for without her, we cannot experience such a high-quality meeting and frankly speaking, this is the highest-quality meeting that I have ever witnessed before.

Table Topic Session was closely knitted with “New Generation”-the theme of the meeting. Table Topic Master, Zhang Lin popped questions of various types, such as new generation of digital products, new generation of champion in the upcoming World Cup and so on……The questions have two characteristics:1)Easy to understand; 2)Imaginary. Because of these, guests responded with passion and this in turn created very positive and interactive atmosphere.

With regards to Prepared Speeches, all what I can say is “they are really somebody!”. For DTM, Yingdan Liu’s C1 speech, I have learned so much. Her grace, appropriate gestures, tones and intonations impressed me a lot! For Oscar, the only speaker from People Square Toastmasters Club, I just would like to say, you are always that special and unconventional as you always tried to be different no matter it was your topic, it was your facial expressions or it was your story. You were actually performing monodrama, and you are sure to be the King of Drama! KC Loh’s A9 speech “How to Improve Your Memory” is the most informative speech since she taught us a set of skills to help us improve our memory in every facets of life. For me, this speech was like rain in drought as I cannot remember things correctly recently and after the meeting, I have confidence that my memory will be improved.

See, this is the magic of Toastmasters. Life in People Square Toastmasters Club is just like a box of chocolate, you never know what you are gonna get. You may learn some skills (communications, sales, leadership), you may get Mr/Miss Right, you may hear a story which will change your way of thinking, and you may get a leader role which will help you grow up quickly. So, if you want to get more, come here more often. I promise you will get something meaningful beyond your expectations.

Joint Meeting with Changsha Club(11th,May)

Excited as I was, this meeting was a kind of creative product! I could not help but feeling “high” as I was finally able to invite my hometown’s toastmasters club to People Square Toastmasters Club and pleased to see the first joint meeting since I joined!

One of the best things this evening was that we had two Presidents play the master of the evening and there was no doubt that this was sure to be the shiniest meeting because of the two most beautiful girls!

Jolie has made an excellent TME by appropriate introductions of every role, little humor and grace.

Though I did not make the 2010 Spring Conference, I still had the opportunity to hear what Roawin, President of PSTMC shared. This special sharing broadened my horizon and enriched my knowledge with regards to Toastmaster Conference. I cannot thank you enough for your selfless sharing!

Though we had only two speakers in the meeting, they are really marvelous! Spike from People Square Toastmasters Club, picked up his C1 speech again in a traditional 3-point manner. The best and perhaps the most memorable moments for me was his opening and ending as he played a little game which created some connections with the audience. In this way, the audience can listen to the speaker more attentively. Spike, “You are really passionate!”

The second speech was delivered by Sandy from Changsha No.1 Toastmasters Club. It was her C5 speech and the objective is “Your body speaks!” I would like to say this was a really “body-speaking speech” as Sandy used gestures every moment! The truth was it was not only her body spoke, but also her face spoke! She depicted a funny yet a little bit embarrassing story which created so much laughter. I love this speech so much! Expectedly, she won the best speaker this evening!

I was not only grateful for People Square Toastmasters Club giving me the rare chance meeting with my town fellows, more because the two clubs chaired a wonderful meeting which benefited me.

Thank YOU! Let us look forward to our next joint meeting with CAT on 18th, May!

Golden Holiday Is Coming

2010年4月28日 pstmc 没有评论

As the May Day golden holiday is drawing nearer and nearer, many people started designing their plans. It can be travelling to gorgeous beaches, visiting parents, meeting with old friends. However, People Square Toastmasters Club Weekly Meeting should be what you cannot afford to miss as the theme of this week was “Golden Holiday” and we shared with each other a lot of ideas and imagination for the exciting holiday.

I would like to say Spike has done a wonderful job as the Acting President in that he ignited the evening with a passionate and enthusiastic opening. You are really an “Aries”!

Thompson, the TME led the whole meeting smoothly in a humorous yet logical manner. You added vitality to this evening!

I believe Neil contentiously prepared for ”Table Topic” session from two perspectives. One is that he carefully chose each question to be addressed. The other is that he designed the session with some creativity (for the first time, we saw lovers’ dialogue and we also enjoyed the debate between the two guests on the topic about “extended holiday is better or not”). Thanks, Neil! Great job!

As for Prepared Speeches, Tommy delivered his second C1 speech at such a short notice(less than 8 hours’ time) and also at a higher quality! Expectedly, he earned “Best Speaker” in this meeting. While, on the other hand, Zhanglin used his C3 speech sharing with members and guests his company and his job with his technical expertise. Though the topic is uncommon, the speech still introduced a lot of laughter. The secret is black humor. Want to have black humor? Please just ask Zhang Lin! He is the black humor king!

Among all evaluators, I appreciate Joy’s evaluation and comments very much for two reasons. One is that she used simple words and phrases in the evaluation session so that each speaker can understand her and another reason is that she used a diagram in which she listed all table topic speakers and their respective merits and shortcomings which can make her evaluation more smoothly. I really learned from her.

Last but not least, let me extend our gratitude to all of you! You are the ones who made this meeting a success and People Square Toastmasters Club a shining star.

Foster New Relationship in PSTMC

2010年4月24日 pstmc 没有评论

Relations of various kind affect every facets of our everyday life. That is why we chose “relationship” as the theme of our meeting this week. Because without good relationship with people around us, how can we enhance our communications skills and achieve excellence?

I would like to say our TME-Roawin has done an excellent job by guiding us to play a small game in the beginning and in this way, we better understand how to foster relations, both physically and mentally.

The Special Sharing was what I enjoyed the most in the evening. Our professional trainer, Linda Ma delivered a “Sales Traning” to teach us how to sell our products and even ourselves. The opening, with some questions, got enthusiastic response from the audience and created great interactions. During the process, Linda designed “Role Play” so that every audience was involved in the training. And in the end, Linda shared with some simple and easy-to-remember sales tips and in this way, people can better digest and absorb. The whole session was educational and we all learned a great deal from it! Thanks, Linda!

Ben Dai as TTM proposed a series of questions regarding “relations”(including office relations, love relations, relations with parents) to the audience and five members and guests bravely shared with their stories and experiences. What was most impressive was Sam, a member from 5A+! He even depicted a plot on how he courageously confessed his love to his girl.

As for the prepared speeches, all are great speeches! Megan told the audience why she wanted to be back to Toastmasters Club; Bourne lectured on “Environment Protection” and our most distinguished Peter delivered a very humorous speech on his “Japanese Experience”.

Evaluators proposed various suggestions and advice to the speakers on how to inprove their speeches from different perspectives based on their different experiences. They are the most lovely people as without them, how can we enhance our communication skills?

The award ceromony was the most expected every time. Sam got “The Most Impressive Table Topic Speaker”, Peter received “The Best Speaker” and Daniel got “The Best Evaluator”. Let us congratulate them!

Because of our passion, professionalism, and dedication, several guests decided to join us as a member on site! People Square Toastmasters Club ROCKS!

Do You Want To Be Motivated?

2010年4月15日 pstmc 没有评论

Every person has motivations to do whatever they like. In this evening, what they like was coming to People Square Toastmasters Club! There came a lot of members and guests with different motivations. Some were motivated by their passion to listen to different stories, like me; Some came here because they were motivated by their peer, like Ben’s six friends; Some people were motivated by their responsibility as officers to improve the wellbeing of Toastmasters Club in Shanghai region, like our senior guest, Samuel, to name just a few.

In “Special Sharing” session, as motivated by his desire to improve the wellbeing of People Square Toastmasters Club, Samuel shared with us his “Standard Operation Process” in global toastmasters club in which he redefined different responsibilities of different role takers and pointed out several aspects that we can do better. The enlightening session has shifted our focus to the front line(speakers) to the backend organizers(officers) and provided us with many tips to better organize our meetings! With his help, we believe we will take a step forward on the way of self-improvement and perfection!

Two speakers, with such a sharp contrast in terms of their mode of thinking, style as well as contents delivered C1 and C3 speeches respectively. Oscar, the king of the evening, shared with his male peers quite a few tips on how to chase a girl, how to maintain a positive and stable harmounious relations between each other in a “high” way. His “high” spirit induced laughters everywhere in the meeting room and earned him the best speaker in the evening! While Joy, a very tender lady, lectured on “Pyramid Principle” which I happened to read several month ago. She used “Elevator Test” introducing the “MECE” principle(mutually exclusive, completely exhaustive) which is proposed by McKinsey and widely used in consulting field. We all listened to her tentatively with full contentration and curiosity and after her speech, I have been able to use a more logical way to express myself.

”Table Topic” session is always the most popular session as it always attacts a lot of guests to participate. This time was not an exception, too! Six members and guests actively set themselves on the stage and performed a wonderful show!

The meeting ended with contentment and pleasure as we not only learned how to deal with relations and how to sell proposal with “MECE” principle, we also attracted two more new members(Oscar Kwun and Megan Peng) to our club by “Law of Attraction”!

Let us welcome Oscar Kwun and Megan Peng again and wish them all the best in the club!
