Every month, we invite some senior members in Toastmasters to give us some training about leadership or Public Speech skills, this month we invited Gabor Holch gave us a training about how to inspire your audience.

Here are some key points to help you understand the sharing:

1) Go with the flow

Go with the flow, look up in dictionary, it means

1. 随大流2. 追随生活中各种经历

In Gabor’s speech, in my understanding is what you like, what you are passionate about.

for example, my flow is cooking ( by Peter). my flow is smile

// Only you are passionate about the topic, you can inspire your audience!

2) invite a guru

guru , teacher , leader, expect. It is said a popular word.

for example, Steve Job is recognised as the guru of the IT.

// the influence of a guru is amazing. so if you find a guru on your tapic, it will be more acceptable

3) Mobilize

In my understanding, mobilize means you should active your topic, make it alive, connect with your audience.

All in all, one inspiration speech is something you do want to share with the audience and make their life or work more meaningful.

Now it’s the 6 year birthday for People’s Square Toastmasters Club.

I think the club song written by our former PRVP Paula Bao best described our club.

今天是Shanghai People’s Square Toastmasters Club的第289次会议，今天会议有一个重要的环节就是分享：
小小分享了如何更好的准备“Humorous Contest”
她提供了准备的方法就是

准备Humourous Contest 4“R”原则：

1.Rule

首先要知道Toastmasters humurous Contest的比赛规则，这样才可以更好的准备自己的比赛演讲；

2.Write

小小推荐了两个学习的方法，第一个方法就是去Youtube搜索Champion Videos, 第二个就是去搜索Champion演讲的Scripts,可以模仿冠军的演讲，学习他们演讲的内容和表达方式。

3.Rehearsal

需要不断的练习，因为Toastmasters的比赛对时间的要求非常的好，哪怕你超过时间1秒都会让整个演讲fail掉，而且humorous contest一个很重要的要素就是，你需要考虑给观众“笑”的时间，要把这部分的时间考虑到你的演讲当中去，

看看世界冠军Darren的自己的录像带，就知道他练习了多少次，冠军背后都是不懈的努力和练习。

4.Resource

Internet是最好的资源了，小小推荐了台湾的Toastmasters网站，上面有很好的参考信息。

如果做幽默的演讲，sixminute的一篇文章详细的介绍了一种“3”原则，我觉得非常好，我就翻译了其中重点的一段，跟Toastmasters分享一下。

译文：

幽默和“3”原则
前面我们谈到了“3”原则，如果能在第三个元素上面增添一个“twist”，就会在你的演讲当中创造出幽默点来。
比如一个常见例子：
“世间有三类谎言：撒个小谎，无耻谎言，统计数据”

为什么这种形式能够创造出幽默点来呢？我们来分析分析。
首先：
前两个元素（撒个小谎，无耻谎言）在听众的脑子设置下了套，他们期待下一个词汇会是“惊天谎言”或者“弥天大谎”。幽默就是来自于这种人们的期望和实际情况的巨大差异。

我非常喜欢这种方式，因为就像魔术师一样，一只手用来吸引我们的注意力，另外一只手悄悄的变个戏法出来。在演讲当中这个方式可以让观众“下套”，从而放大这种夸张的效果。

因此，幽默元素的“3”原则就非常简单了。
1.下套：首先用两个元素引导观众，这些元素可以是词，词组或者句子。
2.让观众“入套”：用第三个元素。让你的第三个元素越荒唐越好，越出乎听众预料越好，但是注意还是需要和前面两个元素是有联系的。

在我的“face the wind”演讲中，我用了一个幽默“3”原则来做演讲的开头：
“18月前，我和我老婆把小公寓的钥匙换成了大房子的钥匙。我们的住房面积翻番了，我们的还贷增长了3倍，我们的收入一毛都没变。”

这个”3″原则是成功的，因为观众想住房面积增长了2倍，还贷增长了3倍，听众想收入应该是增长了4倍才对。这样就打破了他们的期望值。

平时可以好好观察一下那些stand-up comedians,学习他们使用这个法则。
在看晚上的talk shows的时候，你会发现第一句是介绍这个话题的，第二句是是用来和第一句配合，建立一个”pattern”.第三句话用来打破这个”pattern”.

比如我在介绍Toastmasters的时候，我常常用下面这句话来激发年轻人参加Toastmasters：

“演讲不仅可以帮你赢得，金钱，钻石,珠宝;自信，尊重，更重要的是，女孩的芳心。”

切记，3原则的最后一个元素是决定你是否幽默，让人无法忘怀的关键。

First time as TME

Last meeting(20090728), I just tried role—TME, who host the whole meeting. I  score myself 65.

I list some areas I need to improve.

1)Tone Setter

Toastmaster of the Evening means you need set tone for the meeting, but if yourself not so comfortable, how do the audience?

2) Speaker Introducer

Two things about this:

2.1) one  thing is “repeat”, such as we I say welcome sb… i always use Let’s welcome sb …, no changes.( this needs daily accumulation)

Perhaps I can say:

let’s invite…

Let’s warmly welcome…

Let’s put our hands to welcome…

please put our hands together for…

let us hear from…

Let me call upon…

I’d like to invite…

2.2) another thing is body language

when I shake hands with speaker, I used to go to the speaker, instead of waiting for the speaker coming to the stage. This may lead the speak not stand on the center of the stage.

3) Applause Leader,Appreciation Giver

yes, I do applause, I do say thank you, but I did these in a rush. no pause.  Anyway, the effect is not so good.

4) Energizer

I don’t think I injected energy into this meeting

Especially in the end, I prepared to closing remarks.but I don’t know why I just say one word “thank you” without energy, no sincere.

5) Speaker

I also a speaker on the stage. Thanks to the Today’s grammarian, she picked a lot of bad usage of my speeches: pronunication of “sharing,snack”, silent (should be Please silence)

Frequency, One weak Point!

6) Host

I am not so smart to deal with the special situation.

Forget new added sharing session

After break, people still talked, and I am awkward and just say “silent pls, silent pls”

Miss the introduction of “New member induction”, then not smart to deal with it.

Anyway, although I blow the meeting, I do like the feeling of a tme. I will try next time and try to be better.
